Easy Breezy

Dress | BB Dakota
Earrings | Target (old, but similar here)
Bag | Cuyana
Sunglasses | Banana Republic 'Mari' (sold out)

During the summer, I can't think of anything I want to wear more than a maxi dress.  In addition to being breezy, they are just too easy.  Wearing one requires little to no thought -- throw on a maxi, grab your shades, hit the road.  Boom -- effortless glamour.

This BB Dakota maxi even gets bonus points for:
1. Being really soft
2. It's extra long (great for tall girls!)
3. It's blue + white -- only the most chic and classic of all summer color combinations!

The (amazing) Angie of Suburbanite Photography and I had a great time together with this shoot!
We must have looked like we were an epic amount of fun, because this random man couldn't help but want to join our party.

They do say you meet a lot of new friends through blogging...

Things Are A-Happenin'

via

Since Tailor & Table launched last fall, we've been lucky enough to book some ah-mazing clients (seriously, I want them all to be my BFFs).   The tricky thing about events is that clients tend to book their designers waaaayyy in advance (which, for the record, I totally recommend).  This especially rings true with weddings, which most of 2014's events happen to be!

Since last October, we've been meeting, planning, placing orders, and designing every last detail for our lovely clients day in and day out.  While it's been fun, T&T has been anxiously counting down the days until our events actually started happening.  Folks, the waiting has finally come to an end and I, for one, could not be happier about it (patience is not one of my virtues).

THIS WEEK IS THE WEEK!
Things are a-happenin' around here!

We have two events this week.  Go big or go home, amiright?
First, we're hitting the road for the SOLD OUT NotWedding Charleston.
From Charleston, we'll head to Atlanta to give the sweetest couple a classically stunning wedding.  Think marble and lace and gold candelabras, OH MY.

I thought I was excited when we launched T&T. Then I reached a new high when we booked our first client.
But neither of those times really compare to the way I'm feeling today.

I'm anxious, excited, thankful, and so proud.
But mostly, I feel happiness.  The kind of happiness that starts at your toes and travels up to flush your cheeks and plant a smile on your face.  I've had good days and bad days as a entrepreneur, but I think these are going to be the best of the best.  I can't wait to see where the next week take us.

Here goes nothin'!

I plan on blowing up Instagram this week (via both Tailor & Table's account and my personal account).  If you love design and have good taste, follow along.  If you don't, perhaps this may be more to your liking?

Lately

Clockwise starting from the top left:

Bold new shades

Lunching on the go with a green smoothie and JCrew Malta sandals

Took a break from designer to play coordinator for a darling couple

The courtyard at Atlanta's Summerour Studio

Summa time feast!

I've been bopping around for the last two weeks -- Greenville, Atlanta, North Georgia mountains, Charleston... all kinds of fun places (with fun people)!  I'm looking forward for this week at home before craziness resumes command next week.  I plan on catching up on some work, snuggling with the pup, and indulging on some all-American treats that Levi works up on the grill.

Do you guys have big plans for the four day work week?  Are you laying low or going big?

Observed | European Fashion

Yours truly, on one of the warmer (!) days in Munich, Germany

So I know that I kind of breezed through our Europe trip recap without many details, but I did want to discuss one very important topic in more depth -- European fashion.

People often mention that Europe is at least a full year ahead of the US on trends.  While I'm not sure that I completely agree with this statement (social media has allowed fashion trends to be introduced on an international level almost simultaneously, in my opinion), I still made sure to take note of what the locals were wearing. To me, the local fashions revealed as much about a city as their architecture, food, and art.

As a reminder, we went to Brussels, Amsterdam, Munich, and Prague -- all Northern European cities.

As I mentioned during my recap, I found Amsterdam to be the most stylish city BY FAR.  No competition!  All of the Dutch could be described as "handsome" and "effortless".

Munich was 2nd, with lots of beautiful people who seemed to favor architectural details in their clothing.

Prague was by far the least stylish city (on my opinion only, of course!).  To me, Prague bordered a bit on tacky -- cheap fabric, rhinestones, and some wore too many trendy items at once.  Of course there were exceptions, but that's just what I noticed while walking around and shopping.

Some other observations:

- Every city (except maybe Prague) was a sea of neutrals.  Grey, navy, olive, taupe, camel, cognac, white/ivory, black, black, and more black :).  I was in heaven!  Some folks incorporated non-neutral colors into their scarves or shoes (more on that below).  In Amsterdam, a lot of young girls rocked a bright, matte, neon lip (red, orange, pink) with an otherwise neutral outfit.

via

- Sneakers GALORE!  Sneakers were by far the most popular choice for footwear by those of ALL ages -- from pre-teens to the mature crowd.  Nike and Converse were most frequently spotted, but New Balance was a close third.  Again, lots of neutral colors (black, grey)... but this was an area where people played with color.  Red, pink, and cobalt blue were popular choices.  More people more sneakers than any other type of shoe -- they were worn with casual, professional, and nightlife ensembles alike.  Retro/throwback styles were popular, especially with the male population.  I wore my Nike Frees and Chucks the entire trip.  There were completely appropriate for pretty much every situation and outfit.

- If a person wasn't wearing sneakers, they were probably in flat leather boots -- mostly ankle and combat styles.  I saw very few knee high boots.  I also didn't see many flats, but that was probably due to the weather (low 50's and rainy most of the time).  I saw ONE pair of high heels in two weeks, and I'm fairly certain she was grabbing a cup of coffee right by her office.

via

- I was in awe of all of the beautiful coats and jackets worn by the Euro women.  Luxurious wool coats with oversized collars, leather moto jackets, and classic trench coats were the most popular options.  I was really impressed by the fit -- I imagine a lot of them were tailored, and it truly made the women look impossibly polished.  Tailoring definitely appeared to be worth the time and money invested!  Even the oversized wool coats that are so popular looked more chic, less hobo when tailored in the shoulders and arms.

- Most coats and jackets were accessorized with huge, oversized scarves/pashminas.  I loved this.

via

- A lot of folks say not to wear jeans in Europe or you'll be labeled a tourist.  I could not have found that to be more false.  We stayed in residential, non-touristy areas in most of the cities, and everyone wore denim.  It was just as common there as it is in the US, in my experience.  Skinny was the dominant style.  Dark and coated denim was more common than light or colored styles (again, this could have been due to the weather/season).

- When it came to bags, I noticed that women carried LARGE leather bags worn over their shoulder, in the crook of their arm, or crossbody.   Most bags were black, cognac, or taupe.  I didn't notice many small crossbody styles at all, which really took me by surprise!  I saw a handful of Prada double zip totes, a few Fendi 2Jours, and lots of no-name bags that were buttery and gorgeous.  Michael Kors bags were EVERYWHERE.  This shocked the hell out of me!  I'm sure a lot of them were tourists, but still.  MK bags outnumbered other brands two to one.

- Those Euro men sure know how to wear a suit!  A slim medium-dark blue suit worn with warm brown shoes and belt seemed to be a very popular choice.  Of course, the fit was impeccable.  A good tailor strikes again!

In conclusion:
Since returning stateside, I've already made three trips to the tailor.  We're quickly becoming BBF's.
Euro ladies, my tailor thanks you (and my clothes do too!).

Have they affected the way you dress at all?

Currently

Drinking:  Water (wow, really starting this feature off with a bang, huh?)

Eating: The sweetest, juciest strawberries that I've ever purchased -- for less than $2, at that!

Listening: "WHY YOU GOTTA BE SO RUUUUDE?" You know the one.  Get out of my head, Magic!

Reading: I'm about to start #GIRLBOSS and I. Cannot. WAIT.  Have any of you read it?  What did you think?  I've heard nothing but good things!

Watching: Since finishing Orange is the New Black (best finale ever, by the way), I've started watching the first season of Silicon Valley.  It's laugh out loud funny!

Wearing:  I haven't stopped carrying this Cuyana tote since it arrived on my doorstep two weeks ago.

Feeling: Disappointed in the latest issue of Domino.  I usually pour over a magazine 4-5 times reading, rereading, studying features, etc... but I barely made it through one flip through this time.  Since they've started reissuing, I've really only enjoyed the second issue. Tell me I'm not alone!

Thinking: WHY YOU GOTTA BE SO RUUUUUDE? Seriously.  Cannot get it out of my head, y'all.
 Please send help.

Craving:  A pedicure and a spray tan.

Working:  Ever since the gals at The NotWedding invited Tailor & Table to be one of the designers for this year's Charleston event, we've been working on it non-stop to ensure that it's the most beautiful event ever! I can't wait to see it come to life next month (and Charleston readers, tune it tomorrow -- I want you to be able to see it come to fruition too!).

And one last time, for good measure:

Wedding Wednesday with Bonobos

Married and engaged ladies -- I don't know about y'all, but finding the perfect suit for Levi was one of the most frustrating parts of wedding planning.  We just wanted a modern, slim cut suit in a breathable fabric.  Everything was either too high school prom or too "I borrowed this from my dad".  Neither is a good look for the biggest day of your life!

I wish we would have known about Bonobos and their slim cotton suit three years ago.  The fit is flawless and cotton is perfect for summertime affairs!  Can we also talk about that shade of navy?  It's so divine that I felt inspired to put together a design board using the suit as my main source of inspiration.  It's a shade that could go with almost any palette, but I love the way it compliments rich berries and wood tones that remind me of late summer!

The groom's ensemble can make as much of an impact as the bride's, don't you agree?

Real Talk | Budgeting

via

Ahh. The "B" word.

BUDGET.

Doesn't it just send chills up and down your spine?
(And not in a good way)

Considering that I quit my full-time job last September to start my own company, we've had to be extra careful with our pennies this year (and will continue to be for the foreseeable future).  While Levi and I aren't anal organized enough to input every single purchase into a spreadsheet with categories like "groceries", "gas", and "parking tickets" (yes, that last category would be completely necessary in our household), we do make a very conscious effort to pay attention to how and when we are spending to make sure it's done responsibly.  Over the past few months, we've implemented a few new habits that really make a difference to our bottom line.

I know what y'all are thinking.

"Didn't that hoochie just get back from two weeks in Europe?  Doesn't sound like she is the best person to be doling out budgeting advice."

You're right.  But don't you want to know HOW we had the money to take that very expensive trip?
 Read on.

Cancel Cable
When Levi first suggested this, I threw my hands in the air and yelled "I would rather die!".  Hm, dramatic much?  In reality, canceling cable has been the easiest and most effective way to cut back on our budget.  We signed up for a Netflix subscription for $8 a month, thus saving us $72 every single month (and $864 a year*).  Honestly?  We watch just as much TV as we did when we had cable, except now we're enjoying more quality programming.  Think less Real Housewives, more House of Cards.  Sure we miss some live events, but all in all, this was the best decision we made for our wallets (and our minds).

No "Extra" Groceries
Simply put, we** don't buy any snack food.  No chips, cookies, no soda.   We buy what we need for meals and that's about it.  Not only does this fatten our wallets, but it also shrinks our waistline.  Levi has lost almost 20lbs since we stopped buying snacks! I haven't been so lucky, but not having junk in the house helps me stay on track.  It also prevents mindless eating -- before I eat leftovers "just because", I think about the costs and how that could easily equate to another meal.  Granted, there are just two of us and I could see this being much more difficult for those of you with little mouths to feed.  We also don't eat out very often -- maybe twice a month or so on average (and upscale restaurants are few and far between).

 Essentials Only
Beauty products are my weakness.  I'm always looking for the next best thing, which can lead to some unnecessary expenditures.  Lately, I've been focusing on using up what items I already own.  Hopefully, this also results in some more space in my bathroom drawers!  I only buy something new if I'm replacing an essential item that I've used up.  I just recently replaced a lot of my essentials at the Sephora F&F sale in the fall, so I should be set for quite a while.

Utilities
If we leave the room, we turn out the light.  Our house always a little uncomfortable, temperature-wise***.  It may not be much, but it adds up.

Clothes & Decor
Ugh, shopping.  This is the hardest area for me, no doubt.  I like to shop when I'm happy, shop when I'm sad, or just shop when I'm bored.  This goes for both clothing and home decor.  I don't have a good answer on how to cut back.  Honestly, I'm trying to just cut it out all together for the time being.  I already own some wonderful pieces, so it's all about working with what I've got.  When I do make a purchase, it's almost always an item already on sale (or with a discount code), and I never forget to check Ebates for extra savings.  Paying full price is for the birds! I do plan on allowing myself one or two small purchases a month.   This blog is an amazing resource for edited, conscientious shopping.  It's really changed the way I mentally approach my wardrobe!

Get Moving
One thing that I have not cut out of the budget is my gym membership.  While it does cost me quite a bit every month, I see it as a money saver.  Why?  Well, let me explain -- rather than taking an hour a day wandering through Target (almost always resulting in a loss of $100), I can take that hour and go to the gym.  It gets me out of the house and keeps me busy at a place where I'm not tempted to spend a dime.  Oh yeah, there's all of those physical and mental health benefits too.  Hooray for me.  Of course, you could save even more money by forgoing a membership and running outside/working out at home too.  I just know myself, and if I don't have my spin instructor yelling at me to turn up that dial, I'm just going to be lazy.  If my couch is within eyesight, a workout just isn't going to happen!

I know that everyone's situation is different, but we've had great luck with some of the methods discussed above.  However, I know we can continue to improve and be even more financially responsible, so I'd love to hear how you all make your budgets work for you.

What are your best money saving tips?  I'd love to implement a few of them!

*Yes, I had to use a calculator to get that figure. Shuddup.

**You like how I said "we" like Levi steps foot in a grocery store, ever?

*** I use throw blankets when it's cold, lounge in my underwear when I'm hot.  I would recommend investing in window coverings if you adopt this approach.

Europe Recap in 10 Minutes or Less

So who likes reading super long vacation recap posts that take over a blog for 2+ weeks?

*Crickets*

Thought so.
As it turns out, I hate writing them just as much as you hate reading them.

And THIS is why we're friends.

So here's my European adventure recap, in "ain't nobody got time for that" style:

Refresher Course: Levi and I spent two weeks in mid-May visiting Brussels (Belgium), Bruges (Belgium), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Munich (Germany), and Prague (Czech Republic).

Favorite City: Amsterdam
Turns out, there is SO much more to Amsterdam than the red light district and legal weed.  Even in the rain and cold, it's the most beautiful place I've ever been. The people are kind, the streets are charming, and there's a general feeling of happiness and contentment that permeates the air.  This was Levi's favorite city as well.  Bruges and Munich tie for second (but this is like comparing apples to oranges -- we loved them both for vastly different reasons!).

Had to document our 30 seconds of sunshine in Amsterdam

Sweetest Digs:
We stayed Airbnb in every city and LOVED IT.  I would highly recommend giving it a shot on your next trip!  Every place we stayed ended up being wonderful, but I wouldn't be mad if I had to move into our Brussels apartment.  It was huge and really well decorated!

Corner of the living room in our flat in Brussels, Belgium

Best Meals:
Cafe Savoy for brunch (Prague - we stayed across the street and may have eaten here multiple times), homemade truffle ravioli with ingredients from the Marienplatz Market (Munich), bagel sandwiches from Delish (Brussels - ate here multiple times too, whoops)

Shopping for dinner ingredients in Munich (say hello to Levi's finger!)

Cafe Savoy in Prague.  Order the french toast.  TRUST ME on this one.

Most Delectable Dessert:
Waffle with Chocolate Ganache from street stand (Amsterdam). Although, ganache isn't the right word.  Chocolate sauce isn't either.  Whatever it was, it was magical.  Heck, I don't even like waffles most of the time.

Didn't get a photo of our magical waffle, but we did devour crepes in Prague

Best Beer:
Any beer sold in Belgium.  Seriously.  We drank so many beers in Bruges that our lovely bartender offered us a place to sleep it off if needed.  Ounce for ounce, we had more beer than water throughout the trip.  Half of my trip photos are portraits of beers that I drank.
I regret nothing.

Levi looking through the epic beer list in Bruges.

Hofbrauhaus in Munich.  I lived off of carbs for two weeks.

Most Fashionable City:
Amsterdam (Munich was a semi-close second).  I tip my hat to anyone that can look impossibly chic while riding a bike in the rain.  I wanted to take photos of strangers but thought that might be creepy.  Next time!

Best Shopping:
Amsterdam & Munich.  Amsterdam had the best locally owned boutiques but Munich had the best big brand shopping.  I bought a dress from COS in Amsterdam and as well as a pair of shoes from Maison Scotch, of Scotch & Soda Amsterdam Couture.

Favorite Tourist Activity:
Mike's Bike Tours in Munich.  If you're ever in Munich or Amsterdam, book a tour with Mike's.  Our guide was SO fun and really informative.  We saw a side of Munich that we would have never found on our own!  Had the weather been nicer, we would have taken some of the other tours that they offered.  I'd give them a million thumbs up if I could.

Only hit one parked car before I got the hang of it.

Most Thoughtful Museum:
Dachau Concentration Camp (10 miles outside of Munich, Germany).  It truly was a sombering experience, but the museum portion was very well done.   We spent close to 3 hours there, and I could have easily stayed for 3 more.

Most Amazing Moment:
Three-way tie here! Listening to the most amazing violin player in a tunnel outside of the Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam), riding bikes through the breathtakingly beautiful English Garden (Munich), stumbling upon a free outdoor performance by the Czech Symphony (Prague).  All three moments sent chills up my spine and almost caused my heart to explode with happiness.

The English Garden is Munich's "Central Park", if you will

One of my favorite days in Munich

IN CONCLUSION:

The John Lennon Wall in Prague.  Stumbled upon this on our very last day and it gave me ALL the feels.

That wasn't too painful, right?
(Shh, that's a rhetorical question)
