Memorial Day

via

It's Fridayyyyy, friends! I have to work on Monday (boo), but I plan on taking full advantage of the holiday weekend while enjoying some fun and sun on the lake.  L & I are renting a boat for the weekend with some friends and I could not be more excited.  I am kind of a wimp when it comes to nature, but NOTHING beats a day on the boat.

Wishing you all a fun and SAFE holiday weekend!

Country Girl

Happy Friday, love bugs!  I'm headed out after work to my favorite college town (Athens, GA)  to see my favorite Georgia boy in concert with Jason Aldean.  They are performing the first ever concert in Sanford Stadium, where my beloved Georgia Bulldogs play on Saturdays during football season.  I consider myself more of a city girl, but mmm, mmm... I just love that Luke Bryan.

Favorite town, favorite stadium, favorite people, favorite country music cutie.
It's the perfect storm.
Yeehaw!

Enjoy a your beautiful spring weekends!

Fridayyyyyy

via

This weekend is going to be a good one.  I can feel it.

I'm headed "home" to Atlanta to see family, friends, and attend a fundraising gala at my old high school.  I've been homesick for a while now, so it's going to be great to be back in my old stomping grounds.

I also get to celebrate my second favorite holiday, ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!! As a child, my mom used to dye the milk in my breakfast cereal green to celebrate, and I continue the tradition as an adult by drinking green beer, ha!  Maybe it's my Scot-Irish blood, but the very thought of Flogging Molly and Guiness makes me absolutely giddy.  It doesn't hurt that green is my favorite color, too!

The last reason that this weekend is going to be wonderful?
Mister Weatherman is predicting it to be75 and sunny.
Say no more.

What are you love bugs up to this weekend?  Will you be celebrating the ol' Irish?

Venti Fridays

What have you all been up to recently?!  I am finally settling into the new routine, meaning I'm not completely exhausted (mentally and physically) when I get home from work every day.  Plus, I feel rejuvenated thanks to the beautiful weather we had this weekend...65 and sunny?  I don't hate it.

With the return on my energy levels, I'm really looking forward to get back into my blogging routine  -- writing, reading, commenting, and emailing back in forth with friends.

I hope you all are feeling equally as energized this week!*

* If all else fails, there's always Venti vanilla lattes.  They will make you feel bright, and shiny, and new.

IT'S OSCAR SUNDAY!

via

Guys! It's here!! THE MOTHER LOVIN' ACADEMY AWARD ARE HERE!!

Some of you might remember me mentioning my Oscar Challenge, in which I planned to see all of the Best Picture nominees before February 24th (Oscar Sunday).  I did pretty well, but I didn't complete the challenge.  I did, however, get pretty far, so I wanted to update everyone with my thoughts before we all settled in to watch the show tonight.  By the way, I do plan on live tweeting the entire show, so be sure to follow me on Twitter here!*

Django Unchained
Really, really entertaining.  The story was compelling, and Tarantino did a brilliant job of balancing quirky humor with a serious tone that never let the audience forget the horrors of slavery and racism (warning: avoid if you don't like blood).  The combination of gangster rap and old-timey western music made for the most fabulous soundtrack! Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson were ALL completely brilliant.  This movie is super guy-friendly, too!

Beasts of the Southern Wild
Fairly artsy and poetic.  I laughed, I cried.  Quvenzhane Wallis is a star in the making.  One of those movies where you need at least a few hours after watching before you can decide how you feel about it.  I enjoyed it, but I think there's more entertaining films nominated this year.

Lincoln
Wonderful film that high school history teachers will be playing in classrooms for years to come.  Don't expect a ton of action -- the pace is slow, but the story is incredibly interesting.  As a lover of American history, I enjoyed the behind the scenes look into the politics that went into the passing of the 13th Amendment   Sally Fields was kind of whatever; Daniel Day Lewis is a god.  The man is truly one of the greatest actors alive.  Also, who knew Tommy Lee Jones played characters that aren't retired marshalls/federal agents?

Les Miserables
I went into the theatre with no expectations and came out a believer.  No wonder it's been called one of the best stories of all time!   Like Lincoln, it was visually stunning.  The casting was superb, with Hugh Jackman as my personal highlight.  He deserved every bit of the Best Actor nomination.   I'm not normally a crier, but this movie had me on an emotional roller coaster.  I literally felt my heart swell with emotion multiple times.  Bring tissues. Seriously -- I'm not kidding.

Argo
Great story, great acting, great directing.  The movie was based on a true story, which made it even more interesting.  I was 100%  invested the entire 121 minutes.  I'm not sure if I would give it the Best Picture among the other nominees, but it still deserves recognition for being an excellent, entertaining film.  I haven't respected Ben Affleck this much since Good Will Hunting (and the time he broke up with JLo, but that's a different story).

Zero Dark Thirty
I admit, I was extremely skeptical of Zero Dark Thirty going in to the theatre.  I adore the director, Kathryn Bigelow, but I truly didn't think that they could tell the story of Bin Laden's capture so quickly after it happened.  I mean, there had to be some top-level security stuff that the government wouldn't dream of releasing, right? Heck, it took almost 20 years for the story of Argo to be declassified, so why would all the details about Bin Laden's capture already be out in the open?   I was wrong.  My absolute favorite part about this film was that I never felt they tried to "Hollywood-ize" the story in any way.  No extra explosions, love scenes, or dramatic deaths to make the story more interesting for audiences in theatres.  By leaving out any extras, it gave this film a ton of integrity.  I loved it.

MISSING
Life of Pi
Amour
Silver Linings Playbook (actually going to see a matinee today, so I'll have this one finished before tonight!)

Did you see any of the nominees?  Did you have a favorite?  Any predictions for the win?

*My Twitter account is private due to professional reasons, but feel free to send a request.  I would love to tweet about all of the Oscar goodness with you all!

Rocky Top

Not a bad view, eh?

Oh, goodness. The long holiday weekend was SO wonderful.  Our cabin ended up being right on the Tennessee River and offered the most idyllic views.  The rushing water, the green meadows, the fresh air... something about the mountains speaks to my soul.  I wanted to run along the river singing "THE HILLS ARE ALIIIIIIIVE WITH THE SOUND OF MUUUUUSIC", Maria von Trapp-style.

As predicted, the weekend was filled with laughs, cocktails, and sweater leggings (of course)*.  We had a big group (12 people!) and the entire weekend was completely drama-free. Don't you just love that?  I can't wait to reunite with this fun group for the wedding this March!

*We also watched a lot of LOLcat gifs and laughed until we cried, but you didn't hear that from me

Where do you guys like to go for a weekend getaway?
Are you a fan of rolling green hills or do you prefer white sand and salt water?

Long Weekend

via
This week has been a bit mentally draining.  I'm not sure if it's the never-ending amount of rain or something else, but I've definitely been in a funk.

I am so excited to end the week on a high note with a long weekend away.  We're headed to a cabin up in the mountains with some of our bestest friends.  I'm planning on three days filled with sweater leggings, hot drinks by the fire, and lots of laughs.

Here's to coming back next week rejuvenated and ready to take on the world!

Weekend Recap

So I have a weekend recap... on Tuesday. Ahem. Just go with it.

Weekend on Instagram (follow @nataliaetc)

1. Deep clean the house
Check! Well, we didn't deep clean the entire house, but our living area, kitchen, breakfast area, and hall bath are spotless.   I'm not too annoyed that we didn't complete every room because Levi spent several hours installing my brand new lighting fixture in our breakfast nook! Isn't she a beauty?!

2. Cook at least two dinners at home
Check! I bought a ton of London Broil on sale, so we had a red meat-filled weekend.  Saturday's dinner was nothing to write home about, but I made a brown rice stir fry with edamame and teriyaki-glazed steak on Sunday night that was delicious.

3. Go see Django Unchained and Zero Dark Thirty in order to complete my Oscar Challenge
Check! Well, sorta.  We saw Django Unchained (awwwwesome) and Beasts of a Southern Wild.  Beasts was at Redbox for $1.25, so we decided to save Zero Dark Thirty for another day.  As soon as I see all of the Best Picture nominees, I promise to do a post reviewing each one!

4. Finish Week 3 of Couch to 5K
Check! Although, I'm not super thrilled about this one.  I spent my latest run tired, sweaty, and so ready for it to be over -- quite the difference from the previous run.  I must have jinxed myself.  Le blah.

5. Relax
Double check. Times 10. It was awesome.

I wrapped up the weekend by watching the Golden Globes.
 I live for awards season.

Tina & Amy rocked.  Fashion-wise, it was fairly mediocre.  A couple of beautiful gowns, but nothing that completely knocked me out of the park.

Did you watch?  What did you think?

Weekend Goals

via

1. Deep clean the house.  It's bad, y'all.

2. Cook at least two dinners at home (I haven't given up on my resolutions yet)

3. Go see Django Unchained and Zero Dark Thirty.  I'm on a mission to watch every 2013 Oscar Best Picture Nominee before February 24th (Oscar Night).  I've seen Les Mis (seriously awesome, I can't say enough good things) and Lincoln already.  I also watched Moonrise Kingdom after hearing rumors that it would be nominated, but no such luck.  I need to cross some more off of the list!

4. Finish Week 3 of Couch to 5K. It's still, dare I say, not too difficult... I have a sneaking suspicion that Week 4 might change that.

5. Relax.  We have lots of crazy weekends coming up so Levi and I need to enjoy the quiet while we can

Welp, I have a lunch meeting in a hour and my hair is a giant fluff ball. I need to get moving!

Have you guys seen any of the 2013 Best Picture nominees?  Any recommendations?

Have a wonderful weekend, all!
